Lighten Up!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

After eating many plates of turkey, stuffing, and pie I definitely feel a little heavier than usual. But for many people they are feeling weighed down for many other reasons than good food. There are burdens of work, bills, anxiety, relationships, and fears pressing down on millions of people all over the world every day.

But God desires to take those burdens from us! God wants us to lighten up!

Give your burdens to God; don’t be weighed down by anxiety or stress!

God doesn’t want us to go through life shaken and stressed, He wants us to be strong and victorious! He sent His Son to die so that we could be victorious and strong through Him!

“Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” ~ Psalm 55:22

No matter what it is you are worried about (Finances, Relationships, School, Work, Family, etc.) give them to God! When Christ conquered death at the cross, He not only supplied us with salvation, but with everything we need to be victorious in life!

Jesus already won your battles for you! You are victorious through Christ! Instead of worrying, just give it to God.

Enjoy your life! Make the most of what time you have.

Instead of worrying about your own problems, lighten up and show the love of God to others who don’t know God’s love. God will take care of your needs, trust Him!

Lighten up!

365 Days of Thanksgiving

How often are you thankful?

This week is Thanksgiving in America, and many families are preparing for long cooking hours, cleaning responsibilities, and incoming relatives. Others are preparing for long work shifts, or travel arrangements. But no matter what plans there are for Thanksgiving, it is the one time of year our society encourages one another to remember what they are thankful for.

While giving thanks during these times and showing gratitude to others is not wrong by any means, I propose that living thankfuly should be for everyday, not just the holidays.

God does not want us to be thankful for just one day, or one week of the year. God designed us to thrive best in our lives when we live in thanksgiving each and every day.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

~ Philippians 4:6-7

Now understand, life is not going to make you want to be thankful everyday. Being thankful is a choice.

This year my family and I have been given several opportunities to not be thankful:

I had to have extensive surgery on my hand.

My wife became very sick.

My son was diagnosed with cancer.

But we never stopped giving thanks to God, and He came through!

My hand is healed.

Marsha is getting stronger every day.

Jon is now cancer- free.

I was able to publish my first book through Charisma.

You may not always feel like being thankful, but through your thanksgiving God will always come through!

This Thanksgiving, let’s not just focus on what we are thankful for, but let us learn how we can bring thanksgiving into our everyday lives!

All Stressed Up With Nowhere To Go!

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” ~ I Peter 4:7

Have you ever had those nights where you have nothing to do but dwell in your own worries and stress?

We weren’t designed to carry the cares of life.

That is not our job, and yet too many people don’t know how to stop.

Don’t try to shoulder your burdens,

By the increasing load will only break you with time.

Instead lay your burdens down at the foot of the cross.

Jesus will meet you there!

God loves you and whatever trial or difficulty you’re presently going through matters to Him. He has not forgotten about you!

Who Do We Put Our Trust In?

The pastor’s daughter, only 14

Children

A pregnant woman

Eight members of one family

These were among the 27 victims at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Rarely, if ever, does a Las Vegas Concert, a New York City Park, and The First Baptist Church in Texas have anything in common.

Our nation is in mourning for the loss of our neighbors, friends, and family. I found myself crying and praying early this morning for people I do not know.

Our hearts as a nation are reaching out with our prayers to the living God for His comfort. I know I was overwhelmed for this Texas Pastor’s family in their pain.

There is war raging in the heart of America! This war is complex in times of accelerated change and an environment of mistrust.

Who can we trust?

A war of mistrust in government and politics, a war in the news (Fake news or Real News), the mistrust between men and women, young and old, a war over red, yellow, black or white. Can we trust the election? The seasons of testing always reveal; whom can we trust?

Our trust is in the Lord!

I have always found peace, comfort, and hope in Psalm 23, in seasons of testing. In this passage, David is being perused by Saul to kill him when he writes this eternal life giving Psalm of Hope.

David is in a personal season of testing…Life is a test.

We as a nation are in a season of testing. Hear the words of David when he writes “The Lord is my Shepherd I lack nothing“. David knows he is living in fearful dangerous times and he has a testimony of “The One” who provides. I am thankful today that the Lord is our Shepherd.

Our biggest question in this chaotic culture is; Who and what do we trust?

David knew whom he trusted in and his trust was not shaken by politics, circumstances that surround him, people of evil, and places of darkness or events.

David trusted, “Though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou are with me.”

The tragedies of the last few days have reminded me to treasure life every moment because life is a temporary assignment.

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
    He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for His name’s sake.
Even Thou I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
